Random thoughts.

Okay, so I don't quite know what to think of this story.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,390051,00.html

How can anyone forget that they have their child in the car with them? Maybe I'm just naive since I'm a new mom, but it's a little difficult for me to understand how this could happen. I feel so badly for the two babies that died.....I know how it is getting into a hot car in the middle of the day, waiting for the air to cool down, let alone sitting in one for hours on end. Ugh- that's hard to think about how they must have suffered and cried.

Anyways- on a much lighter note....Adilynn is now pulling herself to a standing position on her own! I went into her room the other day after her nap to bag up her bedroom trash. I turned around and there she was, standing in her crib grinning from ear to ear. She's as wobbly as can be, but at least she's doing it! She is sleeping so much better at night now. For about three weeks she was waking up and having trouble falling back asleep. She has always been a great sleeper, even from the first night we brought her home. I think her sleep pattern was getting interrupted because of her teething. But now she's back to sleeping from 8:45pm to 5am, eating for about 10 minutes, then back to bed till 7:30. If she's still asleep at 7:30, I wake her up. Gotta keep that schedule!!!

I'm hoping today I can resist the temptation to eat as many iced animal crackers as I've been eating the past couple of days. I've never bought them before until Tuesday. That's the result of going shopping when you're hungry!!

PS And a big Happy Birthday to my baby brother Zachary! He celebrated his birthday yesterday and we get to see him tomorrow!!! YAY!

Puffs and books.

So this morning Adilynn was doing her usual thing of pulling everything out of her diaper bag and throwing it on the floor. She came across her yummy cherry flavored puffs. She was shaking the container at first, and I was watching her, thinking she wouldn't be able to get the lid off. Ha, was I wrong. I guess with those 6 teeth (and working on the 7th) she was able to pry it off. So puffs went all over the floor. She just looked at me like "what?" and started helping herself to a morning snack. She is growing up so quickly...I wish I could slow down time. Someone at church last night asked me if we wanted more kids. I said yes, when the time is right. She told me to cherish the time I have with Adilynn now because it's such a special time since she's the only one. She said the time with the others is special as well, but there's nothing like time spent with the first. Of course, me being the over emotional one at times, teared up and thanked her for the advice. She changes all the time and learns more and more everyday. Some of her most recent feats include: giving kisses (big, wet, open mouth, tongue out kisses), hugging her baby doll, clapping, folding her hands to pray, and saying dada and mama. She's also discovered that if she grits her teeth and makes a shrieking noise when she's mad, she gets a reaction out of ol mom and dad. Note to self: nip that in the bud real fast!

Orrin is a wonderful husband. I caught him the other day dancing with Adilynn in her room. It was a very sweet moment. What made it twice as memorable were the red basketball shorts and black dress socks he was sporting. Hubba hubba. He also came home last friday with a gift certificate for a facial and a massage at a local spa. Wow! I have never had a facial before so I am looking forward to it!!!

We are looking forward to seeing Tiffany and Christian. They have been gone at camp all week! Tomorrow Tiffany turns 9! That's so crazy. I met her when she was a little 5 year old girl. Now she's growing into a mature, kind, intelligent and caring young lady! I am so blessed to have them as my stepkids. They are so well behaved and sweet. Aside from the occasional fight over who won checkers, they get along very well.

For all you dog lovers out there....I just finished a book by Mark Levin (radio talkshow host guy) called "Rescuing Sprite: A dog owners journey of love and anguish." Orrin's mom got it for us in memory of Boo and I couldn't put it down. I finished it in 3 days. So for anyone that's ever lost a pet (which is probably quite a few of us), it's a definite must read. Just have a box of tissues nearby.

Little fishie

Today was Adilynn's first day in her kiddie pool. Orrin filled the pool up early this morning so it would have plenty of time to warm up. It was little overcast, so I didn't have to worry about her getting sunburned. So we dressed her in her suit and off we went to the backyard. She cried a little at first but eventually she warmed up to it. And although she held on to the side practically the whole time, I'm confident that someday soon she'll let go and venture the two feet to the other side of the pool. Oh, and check out those rolls-- too cute!

Jumping on the bandwagon...

Okay, so after reading my sisters blogs and getting some inspiration from the gals at my Bible study, I have decided to keep a blog. I don't know how long I'll actually keep it going....it will probably depend on how many readers I have. I'm sure everyone is curious about my exciting life and will be waiting on the edge of their seat. ha!

Adilynn is turning 8 months on Sunday. I don't know how I feel about that. It seems just like yesterday I was having labor pains. Well maybe not labor pains, but it does seem like she just got here. How can it be 8 months already??! That's FOUR MONTHS TILL ONE YEAR OLD.
Everyone keeps asking me if we're ready for another one. I think I could pop 'em out the rest of my life. Babies (especially your own!) are such a blessing. It's amazing to see Adilynn's progress and how she's growing up. For instance, since she can crawl, that means she can now go from her belly, to the crawling position, to sitting up. That in turn means that when it's naptime, she goes thru the motions and ends up sitting up in bed crying big crocodile tears for someone to come pick her up. Apparently she thinks since she's a big girl and can crawl now, then that means she doesn't need to nap anymore! Last night I put her in bed and she started crying. I let her cry it out for a few minutes and then went into her room. I found her sitting in the middle of her crib, holding her blankie and crying. Awww. So I picked her up, sang Jesus Loves Me once or twice, laid her down, sang Jesus Loves Me again, and she fell asleep mid song. She used to go down for naps and bed without so much as a peep, but that seems to have recently changed! Oh well.....she sleeps so well at night that I can't complain. And God bless her.....she's probably the only one in the universe that likes my singing.

On a side note, Orrin and I are really wanting to be debt free. Who isn't, right? We sat down the other night and listed all our bills out for the month of July. As we pay them, we cross them off. It totally puts things into perspective when you have your bills written out in front of you and posted on the fridge. Makes going to Target or out to eat a little less important. Already we have done so well this week and have hardly used the debit card! Most importantly, we want to be obedient to God and become debt free. Ahhhh.....music to my ears.
